The Hare versus the Tortoise
Loopwheel fabric knitting machines were first developed in the 1920s. They made much of the fabric in the US for premium jerseywear brands such as LL Bean and Champion. Over the years this method of knitting was made near redundant with the introduction of flat lay knitting machinery which was over 10x quicker.
Slow and steady wins the race
Loopwheel is held in such high regard as the fabric is manufactured slower and in tubular form which creates a softer, denser and stronger jersey. It is knitted with very little tension which means the garments produced with it hold their shape better and shrink less when washed leading to a longer life.

United Athle only uses premium ringspun combed cotton for its tees. Compared with cheaper carded cotton it is softer, more durable and less likely to pill. The quality of the cotton also ensures that shrinkage is kept to a minimum.

Each garment has neck tape on the seam to make it more comfortable against the skin. This combined with durable double stitch detailing at the neck and hems keeps the garment's shape over time.
